Ick.

I woke up and headed to class this morning, with just a slight case of the sniffles. I didn't really think anything about it, since it was early and rather cold outside.

I started to feel a little worse during class, but again I didn't think that was strange because generally when I'm in the Communication Arts building I have allergy symptoms. I think there might be a lot of dust there or something and that irritates my senses.

By my last class of the day I had a headache that wouldn't go away, and just really wanted to close my eyes. Generally this isn't something you can get away with in class, so I trudged through the class period. Once I went back to my dorm and picked up my things I went about walking out to the lot where my car is kept.

It was windy on the walk, and I probably should have called to see if someone could give me a ride, but honestly it isn't that bad a walk. Generally it's a nice walk.

I felt alright on the drive home, thank goodness, but the minute I stepped out of my car at home I was so dizzy. The dizziness has gone away now, but the remnants of my headache are still present. I think I may have developed a head cold, although hopefully I'm just tired. I would prefer to just go to sleep tonight and wake up feeling better tomorrow.

We'll see.

Technological Woes

My upper level journalism class is going to be the death of me. It has been decided.

I have so much reading that I need to get done in the next couple days it's not even funny. The bulk of the reading is for my Journalism class, which I have again on Thursday, but tonight I have to focus on tomorrow's classes because over the weekend I focused on the Journalism class. It's a cycle, a hole that I'm not sure how to climb out of.

I was in class until noon today, and after class I made my usual walk to the gas station that carries The Lansing State Journal. I swear, it doesn't matter what time of day I show up there, they only every have a couple copies left. I dread the day that they are sold out, because nowhere else ever seems to have it. Why is this paper so popular? Why don't they print more copies to account for the popularity?

Anyway... after grabbing something to eat I had to head off to work which went as well as it ever seems to lately. I'm considering looking into some of the bookstores. I think that would be a much better fit. After work I made the hike to get my copy of USA Today. I now have all three of my papers for the day, but haven't gotten to read them yet. They will be read before I find sleep however. Wish me luck!

For the moment I'm reading chapter two of my economics book. It's thrilling. My phone has decided to malfunction. It was working fine until I got back here, and now whenever I make a call or someone calls me I can hear them but they can't hear me. It's highly annoying, and to combat that problem I have ordered a new phone into which I can transplant my sim card. Thank God for Ebay!

Alright, now that I've gotten this out of the way I can get back to studying.

Rainy Day

Being home for the weekend was nice, although I didn't manage to get as much of my homework done as I should have. I have just now finally managed to get all of my reading done for the class that I have at nine tomorrow. I'm supposed to read sections A through C of the AP stylebook, however it's like reading the dictionary and I just don't think I'm up for doing that at the moment.

I got back to campus around five or so, but by the time I had unloaded my car, and then parked my car and walked back from where I had to park it... it was a little after six o'clock.

My parents tried to call me earlier, but for some reason despite the fact that I answer the phone and can hear them talking they can't hear me. I have no idea what the deal is so at some point tomorrow I get to try and sort that ridiculousness out. Hopefully it will be a simple enough thing to get sorted out.

It was a pretty cruddy day to be driving. When I left home it was pouring rain. Thankfully the closer I got to campus the less rain there was. Rain is so depressing. Anyway, I need to get organized and then I need to start considering sleep.

Salad Prep

I went to work this morning. Being the brilliant person that I am I was a tad bit late. I was running so late in fact that I didn't even check a mirror before charging out the door. Thank God we wear baseball caps, because I'm sure my hair would have been a mess otherwise.

I was working the breakfast shift, but was back in Salad prep. I started off the shift completely lost... but was eventually relegated to dishing out Ranch dressing. Essentially it was in this big vat, and I had to ladle out the dressing into smaller containers which would eventually make their way out to the line.

Exciting, I know.

Once the dressing was all taken care of, I got to take the lettuce and put it into containers that would likewise eventually make their debut on the serving line. Once that was taken care of my time was spent filling the salad and fruit bowls and just generally carrying things out to the food line. It was a little hectic, and I still don't always know what I'm supposed to be doing.

That's one thing I miss about my former job, I generally knew what I was doing. I really miss that competence. I guess that will come in time though. I hope so... At any rate, I need to shower and get on the road headed home.

Lansing State Journal

Hey, look who remembered to blog!

On the whole it hasn't been too exciting of a day, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I had two classes this morning, with a rather long break between them. During that break I had lunch and picked up two of the three papers I'm supposed to read everyday. I haven't even read the one's that I picked up yesterday yet... Yes, I have six newspapers to read through this weekend. Awesome!

Once my last class of the day was through I made the trek down to the gas station for my final newspaper. This time they only had two left, and I definitely got there way earlier in the day today than I did yesterday. What is it with the Lansing State Journal?

Aside from the newspapers I have at least one hundred and fifty pages of reading to do for my two Journalism classes between the three textbooks. Maybe I'll try and get some of it done before I leave tomorrow... The first football game is tomorrow, so working the breakfast shift should be interesting, and by interesting I mean crazy. We shall see! I am going home at some point tomorrow afternoon, since Monday it a holiday and therefore there is no class, plus the MDA telethon is on!

I just made my yearly donation a few minutes ago. Has anyone noticed that I'm really good at leaving things 'till the last minute? Yeah, huh. Anyway, I got back to my dorm and worked through a very small portion of my homework before my interview with my RA. It was just a kind of "getting to know you, how are you adjusting" thing. No big deal. We had a floor dinner around six, which only about five of us between the two floors went but that's alright. It was fun, if a little awkward.

Newspaper Hunting

I have been tremendously bad at blogging lately and for that I am sorry. Really, I am. Apparently I didn't learn my lesson the other day, and so rather than write something up and post it before taking off for the night... Yeah. So you'll be seeing four posts over the weekend at some point assuming that I don't rack up a few more tomorrow... We'll see, I almost forgot tonight, so yeah.

Yesterday was the first day of classes. I was up by seven and out the door by eight thirty in order to walk the fifteen to twenty minutes it takes to get to my first class. I think I'm really going to enjoy my Intro to The Mass Media class. Essentially it looks at the history of mass media.

Once that class gets out I have twenty minutes to make it to my Macroeconomics class, which again is about fifteen to twenty minutes away. It's economics... so I wouldn't put it in the same league as my Mass Media class but the teacher is interesting and it's only about fifty minutes long. We'll see how it goes I suppose.

After my economics class I have an hour before my Literature Cultures and Identities course. That one's going to take a lot of time. In fact I have some reading that I need to finish tonight for tomorrow's class. It's written in english and everything, but it's definitely got an air of academia about it. Several times I've had to reread portions several times to make sure that I'd read it right...

After my classes I came back to my room and worked on some of the homework that we'd been given, and should have blogged but I didn't. I knew that I was going to go to a barbecue and fellowship with a few friends, which is ultimately why I didn't get anything posted last night. It was about one o'clock this morning before I got back, which is quite a bit past deadline. But I had fun, so I suppose that's all that really matters.

Speaking of deadlines, I had my first upper level Journalism class today, and I can already tell it's going to be intense. On the one hand this is a good thing, because like he explained today if it's your job to write the script for the eleven o'clock news and you turn it in at elven oh one... well that's unacceptable because you've dropped the ball. Deadlines are a fundamentally important aspect of Journalism as a field. So the class is going to be interesting, but intense.

As part the class, we are expected to purchase and read three different news papers everyday Mon. through Fri. So after I got out of work at five today I decided to go in search of the three newspapers, figuring that it wouldn't take all that long. In fact, I figured I could find all of them in approximately the same area... Guess who figured wrong? I found "The State News" at the first place I went to, but neither of the other papers were there. So I walked over to the Student Union. They had "USA Today" there, but not the final one. At this point I had two of the three, and figured it would would be easy to come by the third. Not so easy as it turns out...

Everywhere seemed to be out of the "Lansing State Journal". It wasn't until a little after seven o'clock and a good deal of walking that I finally found a copy of it. In fact the gas station I went to only had that one copy left. I'm SO glad I got there when I did, and just think, I get to repeat the process tomorrow!

Potentially Lost Phone

Today didn't start out as such a bad day. Honestly. I got an extra hour of sleep because the training start time was changed from eight to nine. Of course, I didn't get up was early as I should of and had to rush out the door at five 'till... but I made it to the auditorium on time.

It was another day of speeches on the different rules, followed by some actual introduction to what the job really entails though nothing can really replace on the spot training. You learn a lot more in the actual work environment.

Anyway, training ended early so I spent a couple hours in my dorm organizing the things that I planned to bring home. By five I started my walk to the lot that my car is designated to be parked in. It's turns out to take about forty minutes or so. Really it isn't too bad, but because of construction the route that I have to take only has sidewalk part of the way. You will see why this was an issue...

So I got to my car, and drove back to my dorm where I parked in one of the temporary loading areas. It took me two trips to get the empty tubs downstairs and into the car. Just as I was getting in the car I reached for my phone, which I thought I had put in my pocket. However, there was no phone. At this point I didn't think it was a problem, I assumed that I left it charging in my room and just thought I had picked it up.

It was not charging in my room. I had to get my car moved, so I didn't check everywhere so there is a chance that is somewhere in the room... but I really think I put it in my pocket. In all likelihood I dropped it somewhere is the grass that I had to wade through. At any rate, I went back to the lot and retraced my steps to no avail.

So, either my phone is gone for good, or by some miracle it is still in my dorm room. I am back at home for my Cousin's wedding tomorrow. So I guess we'll see Sunday what the phone situation is. Turns out it wouldn't have done me any good anyway since our service was cut which is crap but anyway...

Then of course the drive home was a bit of a headache. I was doing just fine, until I missed my last exit. I ended up having to turn around to get back on track. Oh, and the rain seemed to follow me home. It's been an interesting evening to say the least.

Two Book Kinda Day

And so concludes another day...

I've managed to read two books, and plan to begin a third following this post. Granted each one is only three-hundred pages long... but whatever.

By about eight-thirty I was restless enough that I took Yoda on a walk through the neighborhood. That was nice, and I'm not sure why I hadn't bothered doing that earlier in the week. It was much more productive than pacing the house. Of course once we got home Coach was jealous because he didn't get to go for a walk... so now I owe our Golden Retriever a walk. Ah well.

Really though the most exciting thing about today is that it is nearly Saturday, and Saturday means going to the Blink 182/FOB/Panic At The Disco! concert. Yay!

Right, off to get in some more reading! Yes!
