Time For Sleep

I have finished my note cards for my Macroeconomics class. It took me a few hours to do, and my concentration didn't always stick with the task at hand, but I've managed to get them done at a decent hour so I think it is safe to call the mission a success.

Now hopefully having actually studied somewhat for the final won't prove to have been a futile attempt. I really, really want to manage to pass that class with a grade that will at least allow me into my major.

Darcy seems to be transfixed by the sound of my trying. She is crouching behind my computer, and frequently peeks around the corner and stares at my hands as they punch the keys. A moment ago she actually lunged around the corner, seemed to examine my hands for a moment, and then thought better about actually attempting to remove them from the keys. I appreciate her ability to abstain from tormenting me.

I think what she actually wants is for me to head to bed, because I've got my heating blanket going and she likes to lay on the bed when the heating blanket has been turned on. Darcy, much like me, does not enjoy the cold weather.

Tomorrow morning I have to head back to school so that I can take my first final of the week. It's around noon, so I don't have to leave super early. I just really wish this week was over. I'm ready to get the tests out of the way and move on.

Christmas Dinner

Nearly forty members of my extended family came over today for Christmas dinner and our annual present draw. It was fun to get to see everyone. Really I could care less about the presents, it's just nice to get to talk to people that I don't often get to see.

I've also gotten the security deposit mostly figured out, which is awesome because that is due by this Friday. Things are coming together nicely, and now it is just a matter of making it through exam week. I'm not particularly worried about any of them, it's just a matter of having to take out the time to do it.

I'm really curious to see where my grades stand after this week. It's exciting to finally nail down a GPA, and be able to tell people that I'm a Junior rather than having to say that I'm a Sophomore. There's nothing wrong with being a Sophomore, but it's not really the goal to be stuck at that stage for a year and a half.

We have our Christmas tree put up in the living room now, and Darcy seems to think that it's been put there for her to sit under it. She's very fascinated by all the ornaments that are dangling off of it. When we forget and put a table too close to it she climbs up and bats around the ornaments that are in her reach.

Obvious Destination

A large portion of my day was spent in a Barnes and Noble, which makes today a good day. Kristi needed a gift for her friend's birthday, so it was the OBVIOUS place to go. Sarah went along, and then we hung out here at the house before going to see The Ugly Truth which was actually pretty good. It was pretty funny!

Tonight I plan to finish reading Sacred Scars, which is the sequel to Skin Hunger. The sequel is just as awesome as the first book was. Kathleen Duey is a genius.

Darcy is in a snit because my nieces cat Popcorn is over. She doesn't like being cooped up in my room, and yet she has a fit any time she so much as glances the other cat. Joy.

CAKE

At the moment I am baking a Pineapple Upside-Down cake. Darcy was very interested in the process of putting it all together, and since she didn't manage to stick her face into the batter she received a can of food as compensation.

It's been a fairly quiet day, but after yesterday and the day before it I can live with a quiet day. Work was a mad-house this weekend. On the one had this is good, but on the other it's not because we definitely weren't staffed to properly handle the load of customers. I think the end of yesterday explains the situation perfectly.

Yesterday I was to get out of work at 5:30, however I became stranded running one of the registers and could not get away prior to 6:30. Now, mind you, staying late isn't generally a problem since I don't actually have a life... However, I prefer to be asked rather than steamrolled into it.

Thankfully no one had to ride home with me, because I would not have been pleasant company.

Phone Theif

How did I know today was going to be a long day? At any rate it was a really long day.

I spent the bulk of my time at work, where we were incredibly busy while also incredibly understaffed. Things slowed down in the evening, but still: GAH. However, I will be back there tomorrow bright and early. By that time I'll probably regret staying up and finishing "Blood Bound" but that's nothing new. It's too good a book to wait until tomorrow evening.

Darcy is now sitting on my desk chair, nestled in my work shirt and glaring at me. I'm sure she can tell she is being talked about. However, I much prefer her glaring than attempting to gnaw on my arm. This is actually fairly funny.

I little while ago I was sitting here, when my phone started to ring. I had thrown it into my purse, so Darcy was immediately mesmerized by the idea that the bag laying next to her was making nose. I attempted to fish out my phone to no avail, and thus had to dump the contents of it onto my bed. This apparently was even more interesting, because she got up to begin assisting me in rifling through the now free contents. FINALLY I found my phone, and as I flipped it open she immediately went after my arm, as though she was going to take the phone away from me.

Cats.

Lathargic

I will attempt to be as coherent as possible, though truthfully at the moment I could crave nothing more than sleep. However, I have obligations here to be met with first.

Yesterday I was positively miserable, but since I was able to make it to work today it may be evident that I was feeling marginally better. Of course this was prior to driving home with my windows open. Doing so wouldn't have been such a mistake if I hadn't failed to first take some allergy medicine. I can no longer breathe properly through my nose.

Last night I managed to go to sleep rather early, which translates into eleven thirty. Since i had to be to work early this morning, that would a good thing, except for the quality of sleep last night wasn't precisely what one would hope for. I spent much of the night tossing and turning, which thoroughly annoyed Darcy who took it upon herself to glare at me on every occasion that arose.

Obviously I should have taken something prior to going to bed. Also strangely enough, it turns out that watching "Lost in Austen" just before heading to bed wasn't the greatest idea. My unconscious self spent much of my sleeping hours trying to restructure the story that the movie managed to disassemble. I'm still not completely sure what I thought about the movie. It was certainly different.

Though on the subject of today, since I was out of work fairly early in the evening I allowed myself to give into the temptation of going to the bookstore. Once there I promptly picked up the second and third books in Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson Series. The first in the series was "Moon Called" and I thoroughly enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to devouring these volumes as well.

A Day of Leisure

My day hasn't actually been much to blog about. I am nearly finished reading the book that I began this morning. It goes without saying that I'm loving it. It will be finished before I go to sleep tonight.

The bulk of my day has been devoted to this book, and surfing my usual haunts on the Internet. For a while earlier my niece wandered in and commandeered my computer. We blasted Fall Out Boy as I sat here reading and she surfed around her myspace.

Surprisingly Darcy has been my near constant companion. I think she hung around me largely for my air conditioning and the can of food that I had dished out for her. She briefly abandoned me when she deemed hunting down an errant fly to be more interesting. Alas, such is life it seems.

There was also the moment in which I finally recalled the answer to a question that had been posed to me two days ago. I went and got ice cream with my friend and at some point in the conversation used the work, uncouth. First she asked me what that meant and then scolded me for using words that she wasn't sure what the meaning was. Now of course, in that moment while I could visualize what I was saying I could not actually think of any word that would convey that meaning aside from the one that I had used. Randomly today I thought up a few and promptly texted my friend. That is just the way my brain tends to work.

Perhaps the highlight of my day was the trip to walmart about a half an hour ago. Darcy was out of dry food, and she's been sending scathing looks my way all day. I imagine she will be much appeased now that she is in possession of food.

Just Another Day

Today has been a rather boring day. I spent the morning at work, and was largely on my own until well after one o'clock. On the one hand this was fine, but on the other it meant that by the time I was able to take my lunch break it was later than is generally usual. Eh.

Since I've been home I have been both ignored and stalked by Darcy, and barked at by Yoda after he got a good look at who had walked through the door. Perhaps the highlight thus far has been reading another installment of a Jane Austen FanFic that I've been reading for several years now. The first two stories have actually been published as one book: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Darcys-the-Bingleys/Marsha-Altman/e/9781402213489/?itm=1 . I really recommend it.

The third story is going to be out in stores this August, which I think is really exciting. At any rate, she is writing the eleventh and final story in the sage and posting it on FanFiction.net at the moment. It's fantastic, and I can't wait to own the whole series. Her pen name on FanFiction is DJ Clawson if anyone is interested in looking her up.

So I read Jane Austen fanfiction while listening to Fall Out Boy. It's been a standard day.

Declawed Darcy

Darcy got her bandages off yesterday. Well I guess I should say bandage, because she took the other one off the day before. We got her fixed and declawed last week. She was mad as hell the other day after Scott finally managed to get the bandage off. She spent a good deal of the day hiding in the corner and hissing at those of us who were trying to make friends with her.

She was better by last night, and today she’s doing well. As long as she doesn’t see Scott she’s fine, then she kind of wigs out. We haven’t managed to coax her into coming out of my room though. The few times we’ve gotten her out to the living room, she’s darted back again.

She probably feels more secure in there, but hopefully she’ll be ready to venture out into the rest of the house in the next few days.

We’ve got my nieces cat over at the moment. Last night, or I guess technically this morning, I woke up to Darcy hissing. She was lying next to me, and Popcorn had gotten up onto the end of my bed and was staring at her. She isn't always a sociable cat, especially when it comes to other cats.

Darcy, The Snob

The heater went out in my car… again. Well, ok, so technically it still works, but only if it’s on its highest setting. ::Sigh::

In other news my cat is a snob. On occasion I buy her canned food, but I can’t buy her just anything. In fact the only thing that she won’t turn her nose up at is either Tuna and Shrimp or the Ocean fish mix. At any rate I bought her a can of ocean fish, but it wasn’t her usual can. In fact it was a larger can, because I had this crazy idea that she could eat a portion of it at one time and have the rest later.

She was all ready to eat it while it was in the can. In fact, she was all ready to eat it when she saw her usual dinner plate. However, once I actually scooted the plate her way she gave its contents one whiff and then stuck her nose in the air and slinked away.

Darcy is a snob. So of course, I relented and bought her a couple cans of her usual stuff. Cats.

Darcy's Watching

Darcy likes to hang around with me when I use my computer. She likes to watch the mouse glide across the screen, and becomes transfixed when the page is scrolled up and down. She really enjoys watching as words take shape on the screen. At the moment she’s watching as I type.

As ever today was rather uneventful. I got up, went to work, came home and evaded homework than spent some quality family time down at the local bowling alley where my Uncle, Cousin and Older brother are on a league. It was a fun night out, but it also means than now I get to evade
sleep in favor of tackling the homework that I didn’t do earlier.
Fun stuff.

Today is my parents twenty-first anniversary. Stacey was amazed that it had been that long already, not that he should have been so surprised considering I’m twenty. Tomorrow my sister turns thirty-six, and I have to work. So on that note, it’s time to bite the bullet and concentrate on some Shakespeare. Oh, what have I gotten myself into…
