If there were an award for forgetfulness... I'd be a world class champ. I very nearly forgot to blog this week, which just so you know, would make me feel like an epic failure. It's not so much the fact that I almost forgot, as it is the fact that I forgot multiple times.
I did in fact remember that I still needed to blog this week, on several occasions. The only issue with my remembering is that not one of those times did I actually sit down and write anything. I didn't write down a single word. So I'd remember, then consider what I wanted to write about, and promptly forget again by the time I was anywhere near my computer.
Now, I know what you may say, I don't really need my computer in order to write. I could easily hand-write something and then re-type it for the purposes of this blog. But be that as it may, I failed to do that too. So, instead of whatever it was I considered writing earlier in the week, and honestly at this point I have no idea... you are left with this sorry tale of my forgetfulness.
Although really this post ties in perfectly with my week, or at least yesterdays Facebook status, which I kid you not read, :"is wondering why I can remember useless information, but can't remember where I parked the car!"
That status by the way, so true!

Week 3: Getting Organized
Well, obviously, this project is off to a great start so far. I promise this is not an omen as to how the rest of the year will be going. In fact, in order to bring another level of organization into my life I've purchased a daily planner. Hopefully that will help me to keep organized and on top of things.
Lists are fantastic tools.
I've started back to school after taking the Fall Semester off, and I'm not really too sure about how well I'm liking it. The Journalism class I'm taking it kind of fun so far, though the Intro Computer class that I'm required to take has been a real pain. While on the one hand it's easy because I am already very computer literate... it's frustrating because I am already very computer literate.
I've been using a computer, and writing papers and such for most of my lifetime. I don't really need to be taking a class in which I am being taught such things. But I guess we all do what we have to do. The goal at this point is an associate degree, and if this class is one of the hoops that I need to jump through then so be it.

Time For Sleep
I have finished my note cards for my Macroeconomics class. It took me a few hours to do, and my concentration didn't always stick with the task at hand, but I've managed to get them done at a decent hour so I think it is safe to call the mission a success.
Now hopefully having actually studied somewhat for the final won't prove to have been a futile attempt. I really, really want to manage to pass that class with a grade that will at least allow me into my major.
Darcy seems to be transfixed by the sound of my trying. She is crouching behind my computer, and frequently peeks around the corner and stares at my hands as they punch the keys. A moment ago she actually lunged around the corner, seemed to examine my hands for a moment, and then thought better about actually attempting to remove them from the keys. I appreciate her ability to abstain from tormenting me.
I think what she actually wants is for me to head to bed, because I've got my heating blanket going and she likes to lay on the bed when the heating blanket has been turned on. Darcy, much like me, does not enjoy the cold weather.
Tomorrow morning I have to head back to school so that I can take my first final of the week. It's around noon, so I don't have to leave super early. I just really wish this week was over. I'm ready to get the tests out of the way and move on.

Deadlines, Yikes!
It took me forever to focus on finishing the module for my Lit/Cultures class, not because it was hard, but because I wasn't interested in focusing on it. The class has the potential to be interesting, and I'm not sure why it is isn't. For whatever reason the conversations that we could be having in that class don't seem to form like they should, I'm really not completely certain why that is.
Anyway, when I was supposed to be focusing on that I couldn't focus, and then once I got that done I decided to put my computer away because it's battery was dying and I'm not near a plug at the moment. Of course at that moment I decided to focus on wrapping up my JRN 200 homework, and was SO FOCUSED on that, that I nearly forgot to blog.
That wouldn't have been good. I apologize for being a little scatterbrained at the moment. I would like to note however, that I'm really enjoying the weather this week. I was afraid on my walk to class this morning that it was going to get cold again, because with the rain it was a bit chilly. However, by the time I was headed to my second class it has already gotten warmer, and the rain has abated.
It's pretty awesome. Now, if I don't hurry up and post this my computer is definitely going to die. Deadlines, yikes

Harry Potter
My new computer came in the mail today! It is so nice to finally have my own computer again. It's a bit of an adjustment, since the computer is so much smaller. While the keys are the same size, they are all closer together and so it's not necessarily possible to "type".
However a tiny computer is better than no computer at all.
I went to see Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince today and it was awesome. Quite literally it was the first Harry Potter movie that I could see myself watching again and not growing bored with it. Here is the thing about the other Potter movies, there is a certain thrill in seeing them the first time because it offered the opportunity to see the book you had read brought to life. Every viewing after the first however was a practice in redundancy. The thrill of all subsequent viewings was then in seeing the climax play out.
With movies one through five it was the end battle scene that always worked to reel me back in because that was where the action was. However, this movie seemed to disassociate from the book the most. It stayed true to the main plot, but it wasn't so verbatim that all I could think about was the book. The other major difference between this movie and the others was the increased acting skills. The acting was so much BETTER in this movie than any of the previous ones.
Another flaw that the other movies often faced was information overload. Too often the directors seemed to trying and cram too much information into such a short film and therefore didn't spent a proper amount of time attending to the plot. Intricate attention to detail is an important feature in literature whereas dialogue plays an important role in the flow of a movie.

The Phone Book
Last night FedEx claimed that my computer would be here today, and today it says that it will be here tomorrow. I can live with it coming in the mail tomorrow, but no later than tomorrow! At the moment I have once more comendeered my brothers computer for the purposes of this blog.
I'm watching 'Made of Honor' at the moment. Really, my day has been about as interesting as this moment. Last night I was awake until two thirty this morning, and didn't even get to watch The Golden Girls. I was occupied watching 'All Time Low's' performance on MTV unplugged and talking to Sarah.
By the way, All Time Low's acoustic set was AMAZING. Although, come to think about it they could probably sing the phone book and I would listen. Yeah.

No Pants Required
I stayed up until two o'clock this morning, and honestly it was by accident. I was finishing the forth book in Patricia Briggs "Mercy Thompson Series". Really that series is utterly fantastic. At any rate, I was so caught up in reading, that I didn't pay any attention to the clock. I was shocked to see that it was two o'clock, because I was quite literally lost in a book.
Of course, I didn't see it as being a problem since I didn't have to be to work until two in the afternoon. I assumed that I would be able to sleep in, but then I shouldn't have made such an assumption. I woke up at nine all on my own.
It was however a productive morning. I finally stopped debating about it and committed to buying a Acer netbook. I wanted to go ahead and get a Mac, but of course I couldn't afford it outright and they wouldn't accept my application for financing on it. Oh well, if I get a refund through school or whatever maybe I'll go ahead and get one anyway. At any rate, in just a couple days I will once more have a computer all my own. God, I miss having my own computer.
Once I got to work today, Joan and I spent about two hours moving most the furniture around the department in order to make room for merchandise to come up from one of our "sister departments" in the store. It was a rather large move but the end results weren't too bad. In fact it really opened up the space and gave it a fresh look.
The rest of the evening was devoted to giving breaks and lunches and general clean-up in the department on my part. While I wouldn't say that the store was necessarily busy tonight, I kept busy and so it was a productive day.
Once I got home mom announced that she needed to go to the store and pick up a gallon of milk, so the the two of us plus my two nieces headed to Meijer. The whole of that excursion was unremarkable, until we were on the way home. We stopped at Speedway to pick up a pop, and my two nieces headed in while mom and I stayed in the car. This guy walked in just after they did, and in typical young guy fashion his pant were practically falling off. My response to this, was to turn to my mom and ask, "Why exactly did he bother with pants if he doesn't plan on wearing them."
Shortly thereafter my nieces returned to the car giggling, and the younger one says, "You know that sign on the door... it says you have to have a shirt and shoes, but it doesn't say anything about pants!" We all burst out laughing at that point.
Once we had marginally calmed down the oldest of the two explained that Kristi made this observation to her while they were inside, and her first response was to ask where she had gotten that idea from because it "sounded like something Sandy would say".
See, my nieces know me. ;)

Death
I seriously need a computer. At the moment I have hijacked my brothers laptop, but this just isn't going to cut it. I want my own computer, the issue is coming up with the money to get the one that I want.
Eh, technology sucks.
After work tonight A group of us went over to the local funeral home for visitation that was being held for a woman that we worked with. We all wore our work shirts in. It was like a sea of khaki, and I'm glad that I went. She was an awesome lady and she'll be missed.
Death is such a final thing, and it's strange to think how swiftly and unexpectedly it can come. She was going to be sixty this year... sixty is too young. You don't expect death to snatch away someone in their sixties. (Though I suppose death is so rarely expected. There can be no preparing for it's arrival.)
Though of course that is the nature of Cancer. Cancer has no conscience and seems to answer to no one. It is the disease that threatens to consume and over power, and in many cases claims the lives that it chooses to claim. Cancer likes to serve as deaths harbinger, and it is a shame that we have yet to curb this propensity. Someday...

Hating Technology
My junk laptop, which replaced the former laptop, has decided that it no longer wants to function properly. I am deeply annoyed and now have to start looking into ways to fix my current computer-less state.
I. HATE. TECHNOLOGY.
Just saying.
Today I worked a ridiculously short shift at work, and then proceeded to venture home and attempt to keep the peace amongst the younger children while mom and dad were away. Then of course their was the impromptu drive to St. Joes to collect my parents upon the death of our Mini-Van which left them stranded. Really it's been a fairly eventful day.
Maybe I'll luck out and my computer will decide to power up when I press the power button, but I have the sinking suspicion that it's dead. Great. Just fantastic!

Computer Issues
The last several days have been kind of crazy. My computer for whatever reason has decided that it no longer wants to recognize the presence of my optical drive. This happened several months ago. Recently, as I believe I have mentioned, I've tried to correct that problem. I haven't had any luck on that front.
I took it to a local company to fix it at the end of last week, and they aren't sure what's wrong. According to the computer everything is working just like it's supposed to be, except for the fact that it actually isn't. They even called HP to see if they had any suggestions. All they had to say is that it's a common complaint with that particular model and they aren't sure how to fix it.
Great.
So I've been living without a computer for the last few days, which isn't optimal but it's alright. Thankfully their offering to trade my computer with one that they have, and all I'd have to pay is the service fees for what they've done to investigate the problem with the origianl that I brought in.
Bassically this means I will have a computer again some time tommorow. Thank God!

Craptastic
In the process of trying to get my computer to register that the optical drive really does exist, I managed to uninstall my mouse. Intelligent move, I know. On the bright side I did manage to re-install the mouse by using a wireless mouse to re-install it.
On the not so bright side this means that this post is late and therefore going to be complete rubbish. Ah well, that is the way the ball bounces I suppose.
I need to make this one hundred words. A moment ago I only had about eighty-two. Now I have one-hundred and I am off to sleep. I’m sorry this post is crap, I’ll try to do better tomorrow.

Technology Woes
Technology is not my friend at the moment, and Window’s Vista has certain never been my friend. Why can’t my computer just stop gross and work like it is supposed to, or even like it did say four months ago. Roughly four months ago, because I can’t be bothered to actually remember when this happened as it would be too helpful; my computer decided it no longer wanted to recognize the optical drives existence.
They are no longer communicating, which makes my life difficult which seems to be the theme of the universe.
So I have lived without an operational optical drive for some time now, and have recently embarked on correcting this issue. This is plan that I should never, ever have acted on because it has been nothing short a headache. I have tried installing driver updates, and BIOS, I’ve referred to the HP site and their advice… I’ve even reset the computer to its original factory settings managing to lose a couple files that I failed to remember I hadn’t backed up. Thankfully it was nothing vital.
My older brother works with computers. I let him take apart the drive and look it over, and by all appearances it should work. Following that inspection I “borrowed” my younger brothers computer, which is the same model and traded drives. I thought maybe the drive was the problem and since his worked before switching them, it was worth a shot.
Upon switching the optical drives I discovered that not only did the one from his computer still not show up on mine, but the drive that refused to exist on my computer worked just fine in his. O. M. G.
At this point based on what research I have conducted regarding the issue, because I’m not the only one who has had this particular problem with this particular model… It looks like the problem may be the motherboard. Now I am not fluent in computer, but this prospect doesn’t make me all that happy. To add insult to injury I can’t seem to communicate effectively with the HP support people to find out a concrete solution to my problem.
For the moment the prospect of just living with the mysteriously missing drive is appealing. Technology is short sucks.

A Long Day, A Long Night
I feel as though today has been majorly counterproductive. A large portion of the day was devoted to attempting to get my computer to recognize that my CD/DVD drive is in fact still connected to the computer. Stacey tinkered with it, but couldn’t seem to pinpoint what the problem is exactly.
I ended up switching the drive in my computer with the one in Shawn’s, only to discover that the drive is perfectly acceptable. It works just fine in his computer and for that matter the one that was originally in his computer works fine in his as well. Neither optical drive works in my computer.
My computer has decided it hates me. Obviously.
Last night, in an effort to fix the above problem I rebooted my entire computer bringing it back to its original factory settings. Of course, when I did this it didn’t occur to me that I had some music on my itunes that I had failed to back up. That was a hassle in itself since I ended up wrestling with my ipod until it agreed to cough up the songs that had nearly eluded my grasp.
I’m tired of fighting with technology. The evening doesn’t look much brighter from here. Though I have managed to save the majority of my music, and am now reinstalling itunes for the third time today, I still don’t know why my CD/DVD drive is refusing to work and my cousin is going into emergency surgery.
I’m hoping and praying that she comes through it ok, because the doctors are worried. My parents are down at the hospital now, and I’m here holding down the fort. These are the instances that make me nervous about the future. I know I’m ready to move forward, and yet in so many ways I know how much I’m needed… But she’ll be alright, we all will. We just have to move through this one step at a time, starting with tonight’s surgery. I’m putting this out there, and asking for prayers for my cousin and the doctors that will be with her in the next few hours. Pray for steady hands and a smooth operation.
